Okay, I didn’t know any other person there (or at least see anyone I knew) but this race was big and there were A LOT of women there. This particular 5K is put on by women for women so I was pretty stoked.
They did a lot of "girlie" things for the race, which included decorating the portable toilets, giving away flower-covered t-shirts cut especially for women, providing a "finishers" prize necklace for everyone who crossed the finish line and tiaras for the first-time 5Kers and girls under 12.

It'd been a while since my last run so I clocked over 15 miles last week gearing up. I did 4 3-mile runs to prepare and then the actual race. I didn’t have a lot of expectations for Sunday (except to do the entire thing without walking) but when I hit my Nike+ at the starting line and couldn’t even SEE the finish line when the shoe said I was done with 5K, I was pretty disappointed.
If I listen to Nike, I finished my race in just over 30 minutes, which is a new personal best for me.
If I listen to the timing device in my shoe, I finished in the exact same time as my first race:
Place Name Gun Tim Div/Tot Net Tim Pace
687 Sarah 34:36 77/274 33:29 10:47
If I understand this, I finished 687 out of 3400…and 77th in my “division”…I’m guessing girls age 24-29.
I know that a 10+ minute mile isn't that great but considering I struggled to run 60 seconds without passing out when I started C25K in January, I'm pretty pleased.
However, I’m a little skeptical of the race numbers...only because I believe the course was longer than 5K. But I’m glad I did it, and I’m gearing up for another race this Saturday.
See you there.
